This painting by Vuillard of the Metro in 1916 was a big surprise. I associate him with light, sunny paintings, so to see this dramatic gloom was startling!

So glad to have seen her live in London in Kiss of the Spider Woman. She was a sensation at an age when some people would have been shuffling about in slippers.
