Local-first (user-owned) software is inevitable. I'm building https://evolu.dev
will pay people to read Hayek and Rothbard. That will be pretty expensive.

"it's been a long time coming"

this is a team effort from dozens of people over many years, and they all deserve huge credit

still, a shoutout to @sebmarkbage.calyptus.eu who did much of the initial design on 7 (!) of these projects and convinced everyone else to work on them for a decade

It will. People love socialism and hate capitalism.

This is a list of events that have occurred in America in the last six months. How would you describe it if you saw it in any other country?

I wrote something else, but hey, I don't want to be reply guy. Carpe diem.

Am I understanding correctly that the protocol’s main goal is to make it safe to use a low-entropy, human-memorable password for recovery? Wouldn’t it be better to require strong passwords instead? Thank you

Rules are essential. To enforce rules, we need rulers. Classical liberalism/libertarians/ancap are against a single monopolistic ruler (e.g., the State). Without competition, people can not choose what works for them. That's actually the main point of classical liberalism: it's against monopoly.

When people think about classical liberalism (both libertarianism and anarchocapitalism use that methodology) without going deeper, they believe the State enforces rules which are helpful for society, while silly libertarians want to have no rules. That's not true.

I think we met at local-first conf, did we?

First, "The libertarian dream of a free-for-all" There is no such dream. free-for-all is exactly the opposite of it.

We all are :-) I just wanted to say you misunderstood something. Have a nice day.

That's a straw man. The libertarian dream is a free choice.

The only thing worse than a "social network without filtering" is a social network with "filtering" I disagree with. I'm all for content moderation if I'm free to choose.

It reminds me “The lack of imagination is the biggest challenge we face when fighting for a freer society.”

I read that post and tons of others, and even papers and some implementations (Matrix and Nostr Whitenoise), and I’m still not sure I understand it 🥹

It seems it’s possible to hack MLS for local-first. I can’t believe they designed MLS to be centralized so much.
