It's migratory bird days at the Wadden Sea!
Today I joined the team at the tower in Varel.
Let's see whether we can spot as many species as last year 🤞😎

A fun day on Langeoog island today 😎 with three students from Greifswald University. They will collect data for their dissertation projects, which will help us make some management decisions 🤝

I finally managed to visit one of our most interesting saltmarsh restoration sites: the Langwarder Groden.
The site is a combination of two restoration methods: opening a small seawall and topsoil removal.
Very popular with both wildlife and tourists due to an accessible boardwalk 🐥🦭📸🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️👨‍🦽

Happy #WorldSaltmarshDay! 🌊🌾🥳

Salt marshes are an important habitat for plants & animals and also help protect the climate and the coast!

I loved salt marshes since my first project in 2008 💙. Now I'm responsible for the management of +8400ha in the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park.

Excited to be in sunny Hamburg today 😎 we are meeting with colleagues to discuss the projects in the framework of the 'Federal Action Plan on Nature-based Solutions for Climate and Biodiversity' on the coast.
Stay tuned for more news soon!

Spotted one of our temporary electric fences in the field this week.
These are put up by our #nationalpark rangers to protect breeding birds 🐣 in the #saltmarsh from predators ⛔🦊
It's also easy to see we had a very dry spring...

Sunny day for a field visit yesterday 😎 to look at some of our managed realigment sites where the 'summerdike' was breached close to Dorum-Neufeld

Good luck! 🤞
A trip to the Dongtan salt marshes on Chongming island (close to Shanghai) in 2016 led me to start working on plastic pollution in coastal wetlands. I am hoping it already looks better there than it did 7 years ago.

Ever wondered how to build an underfloor heating into a salt marsh to simulate climate change? 🤔

Then check out our new paper:

I wanted to introduce myself on here. Found a fun tool that creates a word cloud from your Google Scholar page. shiny.rcg.sfu.ca/u/rdmorin/sc...

Easy to see that I 🥰 salt marshes and everything in them
