✅ Keep a separate development cooperation instrument! 🎯
Why? 🤔
✔️ Supports poverty reduction worldwide 🤝

Honestly, I couldn't agree more and the visual is simply stunning
🤝 We stand in solidarity with environmental NGOs facing unjust attacks in the EU! The EU must protect civil society organizations and human rights defenders by ensuring stable funding and political support. Now is the time to stand up for those defending our planet and democracy.

A quick thought on #MEPs' discussions on restricting #EU funds for #NGO advocacy: NGOs play a key role as watchdogs, holding EU decision-makers accountable and keeping democratic processes strong. Restricting their role weakens democratic oversight and participation.

🚨SCOOP: The EU is planning sweeping changes to how it deploys development experts around the world.

Some say, at the risk of influence and effectiveness.
Scoop: EU wants development staff in regional hubs, not delegations
Development experts could be pulled out of some countries entirely in the search for budget efficiencies and strategic focus.

Very interesting article from
@halimabegum.bsky.social, Oxfam GB CEO, in @theguardian.com about decolonising the aid sector.

Particularly important the call to 'decolonise but we use our voice and power to hold our governments to account'.

'It’s paying our just dues … That’s decolonisation.'

As the #MFF (multiannual financial framework) 2027 is fast-approaching, it will be key to push back cuts to the EU's external action funding.

Particularly important will be ensuring that #ODA (Official Development Assistance) will not be de-prioritised.
📝 The allocation of limited EU funds is a highly political process of establishing priorities.

The temptation to favour short-term gains over mutual long-term benefits with external partners is a massive risk as next 5-year budget approaches.

The European Parliament has officially approved the new European Commission, to start on 1 December.

Worth noting that this VDL Commission is the least supported/most opposed one in the history of European Parliament votes, as shown by @politico.eu.

With a lot at stake in this new #EU legislature, it'll be interesting to see what role the EU will play as a #humanitarian & #development actor. Will the EU be present and active where the need is the most - i.e., in fragile contexts? Or will the focus mainly be on the EU's self-interests?
The European Parliament officially approved Ursula von der Leyen’s team for her second term today.
But the incoming Commission is the least supported by EU lawmakers since the Parliament was awarded the right to vote on the cohort.

Take a look 👇
