Yesterday, I presented our latest @iclaimeu.bsky.social research on food delivery workers and digital borders in #Birmingham, examining the connections between emerging criminalisation narratives and evolving legal and policy frameworks regulating the UK platform economy. (🧵1/4)

After months of challenging work learning new methodology, I've produced what I believe is a valuable piece of research that shows how 'irregular migration' is narratively constructed in UK media, politics, and civil society. Full report: bit.ly/uk-migration.... Key findings and excerpts below👇
🚨 New research alert! 🚨
How is #irregularmigration framed in UK media, politics, and civil society? A new @iclaimeu.bsky.social study exposes the narratives shaping public opinion and policy. 🧵⤵️

🚲 Bikes are crucial nodes in the #PlatformEconomy — the core machinery in the food delivery assembly line. Today as part of my fieldwork for @iclaimeu.bsky.social I started following their journey across workshops, from acquisition to repair and electric conversion, all the way into urban mobility.

Working on expanding my article's theoretical framework around #racial-imaginaries and #racial-landscapes. Found fascinating literature, though heavily US-centric (as usual). Can't decide whether to dive deep into these concepts or just observe them lazily from my imaginary inflatable sea mattres.

🧵 That’s a great piece, indeed! And we’re excited to announce at @irisbirmingham.bsky.social we’ve just started our collaborative #ethnography on platformisation of domestic work in the #WestMidlands!

We look forward to joining the conversation and contribute bridging these knowledge gaps! (1/5)

With farm owners protesting today over the prospect of paying a highly discounted inheritence tax, I'm sure you've seen quotes about how they "feed the nation".

But nobody is talking about the migrant workers who actually pick the crops on horticulture farms, so here's a short thread about them.

This is super relevant to our ongoing research within the i-claim.eu project. We're now finalising our analysis of how irregular migration narratives are constructed in media, political, and civil society discourses across 🇳🇱🇩🇪🇵🇱🇫🇮🇮🇹🇬🇧. The next step is to launch a survey exploring public perceptions!
These are examples of what we call "migration communication campaigns".

In our new article (with @jamesrdennison.bsky.social and @mcarmoduarte.bsky.social), we present a database to explore how diverse campaigns shape our perceptions of migration.
