I am down to 15 laying hens because I knew I would be gone for a while. Ask my neighbor how many eggs he is getting a day while watching them. Happily he replied 5 to 8 a day. I am pretty sure I will have more than 16 chickens when I return. 😆

Over winter break I brought my uncle some eggs. Bred with a 12lb Brahma. He feeds a mostly vegetarian diet to them. Mine are free range and I think they were noticeably larger by this age. The first picture is his, second, and third mine at about the same age.

I was reminded of this picture from another post where their baby was in a tree. Some say chickens don't fly. I would say they don't fly far. She used to jump from the bed of a truck up there to get in the backyard. Now she just flies over the 6' fence in the picture.

Somehow when I go to get feed I end up with a dozen "throw away" babies that have gotten too old. I think Ron would say, "people that pay for chickens are suckers."
