The phonics boosting Birchers probably wouldn't have been into it if they'd known there was some cognitive benefit to phonics education rather than it just being character building to make a child read aloud in front of a giggling class and sound out the unfamiliar words

His job for 20 years has been to round up Democratic votes on legislation and his signature accomplishments have been getting his shit kicked in by the likes of Kent Conrad, Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema, and John Fetterman

Combine that with the people who join such commissions because they care to an annoying degree, and you get one explanation why upper echelon politicos have such disdain for basic services and infrastructure.

It's not helped that for a while phonics was a culture war issue, so it would come up in the same conversation as new math and flouride in the water. Admittedly, the phonics advocates then weren't so much interested in efficacy, but rather regimentation in the classroom

I just want to see some lender doing some serious deep dive futurist weirdness to work out how to price the risks of a loan over that kind of time frame rather than just taking a standard loan term and extending it

Tellingly, there was an agreement that committed a significantly higher amount if OpenAI changed their corporate structure by an end of year deadline, which seemed unlikely until it just happened

On paper, it may look that way but I think the order of operations is wrong. They committed OpenAI more than they can afford or anyone will lend, and Nvidia is the ripest asset they can sell for ready cash.

It sometimes drives really interesting writing by making it a creative challenge, but it's gone too far.
I blame the demise of blatant cokeheads in editorial and production roles demanding arbitrary constraints like 'there has to be a giant robot spider'

If they make a thing about committing to realism and don't make a movie about an extremely elderly WWII veteran suffering from constantly repeated head trauma, bullet wounds, alcoholism and venereal disease- I'll be sorely disappointed

Squishes in the Democratic caucus maybe needs to be a little more specific. I haven't bothered to keep track of which members consistently voted against nominees or bills since I haven't noticed any taking a firm stance

Which... who actually would have standing to challenge a violation of a law about the currency? Would it take somebody refusing to accept illegal money for payment and then work its way up?

It seems selfish or petty to look at crowds of 19th century infant gravestones, or see the cultural gap in the late 80s/early 90s that shows the AIDS crisis, and compare it to how a sane future society would feel about our current healthcare... but it's mostly more of the same, right?
