I am a hobby chicken tender with about 21 chickens at the moment, and I love all of them. I can and will get excited about them, their eggs, or just anything that probably falls under "homesteading".
Hello!! I have a craft show today at First United Methodist Church in Saint Clair, Michigan, near the shopping center. We'll be here from 9 am to 2 pm!

Today, I learned that a buttload is an actual unit of measurement, estimated to be about 126 gallons.

Heyo, I just wanted to put this out here, but I do writing commissions! Feel free to check it out, but heads up; I do have two novel slots filled at the moment!

It's been a month, ope. But! Introducing the babies we had before... as teenagers! With Latios in the front, followed by Odysseus, Deep Slate, and Penelope.

Hi! We got new babies in the house!!! Only two have names; my "Diamond Duchess" is Penelope and my husband's "Dark Copper Maran" is Odysseus. I have no regrets. Fully blame too much Epic the Musical... and my love of myths.

I'm excited! We started incubating turkey eggs last night and, on Wednesday, we'll be doing chicken eggs.

My disabled hen, Latias, was examining her gifted eggs before I did this video. She seems to be in a broody mood, or at least getting there. Of her eggs, she has about three blue, one white, four brown, and... one turkey egg. Unfortunately, she's in Hen Jail for now.

I really like space. Like, not "personal bubble" space (though that's nice), but Space. Gimme, like, stars and constellations and planets and comets and galaxies. Gimme the beautiful light shows our atmosphere puts on in the night. Gimme the innocence that comes from wishing on stars.

I love it.

Quick background: I have a disabled hen (lost a leg and the toes on her other foot due to frostbite) named Latias. She's been inside since January and working on recovering. It's been a slow and steady process with her, especially since she's my youngest hen at the moment.

While I do this for a hobby, I've realized I also really like selling the excess chicken eggs. It's not even for a profit. I just like not wasting eggs that I doubt will be eaten faster than we collect.

Plus, I can possibly get pics of chicks and put the money towards the birds. Win-win for me!

Fun fact: Brown eggs can be hard to tell apart when all but two or three hens lay brown eggs, even if the breeds are different. Fortunately, each tends to have a different size, shape, shade, or even extra details that can help tell them apart.

Can you tell I'm lightly complaining? Bc I am.

I enjoy raising chickens. I also enjoy yammering on about it to my poor husband, and the cool facts I've researched that day.

Fun fact: Chickens really love grapes, but you should give them in moderation, and even then, it shouldn't be more than once a week.

So, chickens are amazing. Did you know that, if you raise a chicken around cats, they can make eggs that, if fed to a cat, can make the cat basically hypoallergenic???

Fun fact! Did you know that, according to Greek mythology, that the sirens were once handmaidens to the goddess Persephone? After she was kidnapped by Hades, her mother Demeter gave them bird bodies in order to help search for her.

So, pic from earlier this month, but look at these! Can you see why I love Artie's eggs? They're not as blue as last years were, but they're still some of my favorites!

Picture taken courtesy of my husband, who has a better eye for detail than I do.

Oh! Did you know that egg sizes, like small, medium, large, and so on are actually not based on the egg's size, but it's weight?

Jumbo eggs actually weigh about 69 grams or higher! And, if you're substituting them in for large eggs, two Jumbo are equal to three Large!

Another pic from my flock! This lady here, a black sexlink named Blink (or Ms. Blink) is a beautiful girl and lays beautiful, dark brown eggs! She loves to peck me, though, whether I'm petting her, fixing something in their run or coop, or I'm giving out treats. She's just a curious girl, tho.

I love being a chicken tender. It's nice. I get eggs, pet birds that I can be less allergic to bc they're outside, and they're amazing listeners! Provided you toss blueberries, broccoli, or meat for them to attack like a swarm of piranhas.

I love my chickens. They're adorable and precious, and also extremely dumb at times. Here's my smartest dummy, Ms. Snow, as she's getting ready to lay an egg. For a small bird, she lays jumbo eggs!
