that's more or less how cars work in the fallout universe. of course, the comic absurdity there is that the cars have mini nuclear reactors instead (the very unscientific punchline is that if you hit them too hard they explode in a mini mushroom cloud)

like another person mentioned, it's like saying in the year 1925 that movies were inherently incapable of telling 'better' stories than books, and so they should go back to what they do best: making people think a train is coming at them
