Blind folks would be able to scroll pics if their screen readers are able to read the ALT text. Also, it's good for people with other disabilities such as autism because it can give needed context on what the poster thinks is important about the image. It really does help a lot.

The same thing happened at around the same time with the Sonic games and GUN, where in SA2 GUN were clearly the antagonists but in the Shadow game and beyond they worked with GUN. The answer is that 9/11 happened and movies and games adjusted their stories to be pro military.
