in contrast, I worked with Tom directly quite a bit, and while he wasn't perfect (who is?), he was really pleasant to interact with and genuinely cared about users when they had bad experiences

I worked for a company that was the largest buyer of fusion-io drives and they blew away absolutely all other options for making our big cache servers persistent through reboots without a 15+ minute flush time on shutdown. I missed a chance to meet Woz because of timing and have always regretted it.

I'm so envious of you surf enjoyment. I've tried several times, in three countries, with multiple lessons, in several states of shape and fitness, but it eludes me.
I skateboarded daily for years, I snowboard as often as possible, but surfing? Last time I jammed my foot and decided to give up.

that is the exact age I found a 300 baud modem in a closet (why did my parents have that??) and was mysteriously helped to set it up and connect to various things

I just added a window unit to my garage / shop / gym and boy howdy does it make it more useful!
It is sinful, but I generate more solar than I use and buffer it with batteries until the middle of the night so I don’t feel bad about grid strain or emissions from it, at least
