Via "One First," my longer take on #SCOTUS's ruling in the birthright citizenship cases.

TL;DR: The short-term significance may well be blunted by the answers to two procedural Qs the Court didn't address. It's the broader implication (the death of the legal process school) that's especially grim:
162. What Does the Birthright Citizenship Ruling Portend?
Friday's ruling in Trump v. CASA will fundamentally alter the relationship between federal courts and other government institutions. How much depends upon three questions the decision left unanswered.

A "pipeline" implies some resistance to flow. This is more like a freeflowing river. Zero accountability. Zero checks.

Just send over the bombs to allow a rogue government to drop them on hospitals and schools, then the refugee camps thereby created.

Indeed. When they rounded up the Japanese Americans, myself and my family included, for internment during WWII out of fear over Japanese spies and saboteurs, two thirds of us were U.S. citizens.

Don’t think it won’t happen again when they come for the “undocumented.”

Some good news - More than 350 lawyers showed up today for a 90 minute call in the middle of a work day to learn how to help protect civil and human rights under the next administration.

I told them while they won’t be able to help everyone, they will be able to help someone. And that matters.

With Trump months away from taking office, immigrant rights advocates are urgently calling on Biden to protect DACA recipients, extend TPS, release non-priority immigrants from detention, and rescind lingering rules from Trump I.
