For Paris, it was about….recognizing the core is "not just something to move through as fast as possible," and prioritizing the livability of those inner neighbourhoods”

@cityptbo.bsky.social maybe our core should also not be a through route? Maybe we could start by two-waying the streets?

“One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss.”

“Which means that Copenhagen, a city of 1.2 million people, saves $357 million a year on health costs because something like 80% of its population commutes by bike.” #CityMakingMath

Some costs aren’t costs.

Copenhagen, the bicycle-friendliest place on the planet, publishes a biannual Bicycle Account, and buried in its pages is a rather astonishing fact.

It’s really important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of ACTUAL EVIDENCE that they’re better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.

The Dodgers were supposedly a juggernaut of a team that the Jays had no chance against. Even though they ultimately won I’m not sure the team we saw in the World Series could really be described as a juggernaut.

At the park in the @cityptbo.bsky.social Hard to imagine how we will ever shift people out of cars if they can’t use public washrooms for 6 months of the year. How about we start with winterizing the ones being built at Knights of Columbus Park and then start retrofitting the rest from there.

I keep telling decision makers in @cityptbo.bsky.social that protected bike lanes from Rotary trail in East City across Hunter St Bridge to the Bethune Bike street would accomplish exactly this.
“When streets became calmer & safer, more people felt comfortable trying a bike commute for the first time. Families began pedaling to the park…Local businesses saw new life…And cycling stopped feeling like a niche activity—it became part of everyday Parisian life.”

Imagine a 100m race where we’ve given cars an 80m head start after many decades of building almost ONLY for them. If we then set a transportation goal of “balance” between many more choices in getting around, by definition we have to prioritize the new choices for a while, or they’ll never catch up.

Florida is so good at cycling the puck. Every time the get into Edmonton’s zone they cycle, they win battles, they keep the puck in, they turn pucks over.Edmonton will have to get the puck out of their own end quick and clean if they are to have any chance at winning this game #nhl #stanleycupfinal

I don’t know what’s worse what’s for Florida, losing tonight’s game after being up 3-0 in the first period, giving Edmonton home ice advantage back or that the series is 2-2 and Edmonton hasn’t actually played a good game yet. #NHL #StanleyCupFinal #GoOilersGo

Wow, what a spectacular lineup this is. Maschmeyer in the net, vets like Sarah Nurse and Claire Thompson and players like JenniferGardiner and Abby Boreen who just had great seasons with the Victoire. This is a team that will be right in the mix in year 1.

Instead of not building sidewalks because they’re expensive to provide and maintain (which they are in low density neighborhoods) let’s increase the density of our neighborhoods to
increase the tax base per km so the cost of providing and maintaining infrastructure becomes sustainable

Imagine someone walking in to the train in Downtown Toronto or Montreal and then getting off in Peterborough in the middle of a parking lot at the airport. Then what? The people who chose to travel by train instead of drive here have to rent a car to get around? Why travel by train at all then.
