I am very sorry that it happened, whatever the circumstances.

Well, IRL the cost is always high. But if enough people do their part, as you did, change happens. “Garry” is no longer a danger to others. Scranton wasn’t exactly truthful here. But that is the next step for some of us. It is everyone doing their part. I am sorry that they did that to you.

(6)People will turn on your & the cycle just goes on —blame, shame, suspicion— on &on. I thought that I could stop it before my own children were born, then surely by my grandchildren’s time, & soon I will have great grandchildren. Believe me, they are just getting more clever at hiding it.

(5) If there is abuse in your Church,& you have done nothing to help victims &/or make it safer, you are complicit. Every member is equally responsible for the safe environment in their church. Nobody will do it for you. When it is you, your child, your sibling etc who is assaulted, that is too late.

(4)I like this picture because it depicts the soul murder of those who have been harmed (& continue to be harmed) on every level, repeatedly—& often for life. I like the boy who looks outward & challenges the viewer.

(3)Most often, the predator gets support, protection,& help-while the victim gets blamed, called seductive, called a liar, accused of being attention seeking, mentally ill,or anti-Catholic, anti-Christian, etc., or “wanting $$$”. People create a negative narrative about the a victim to minimize them.

(2) When we are crushed by life, we can turn to prayer & our faith family for support & healing. As survivors of assault & abuse by religious leaders, that is not possible. We become an instant outsider. We are “suspect” & often accused of trying to attack “a good person” or the institution itself.

When politicians told lies about the Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio, it opened the door for racists to come out from under their rocks & attack citizens in Columbus OH.(they were calling out racial slurs/starting fights. They sprayed a person of color in the face with mace/pepper spray)
