I visited Berlin for the first time in 1999. There was an air of optimism about the change that was sweeping through Europe at the time.
I visited it again last year and while standing in front of the Reichstag again it suddenly hit me that all that optimism has been swept away.

I have argued that the claim that progressive Koreans are anti-American is misguided; what they seek is not hostility toward the United States, but a rightful sense of mutual respect as partners in an alliance.
