It was written in verse as if it were an epic, and trust me, it was pretty epic. It was a fast read that I didn’t want to put down. The descriptions, the way the stories intertwined with one another and came together in a way that was unexpected and exciting, made me want to read more books like this. What I liked the most was that I felt like I was emersed into the characters lives. I really liked the incorporation of humor, but the only downside I saw was that some of the humor felt a little forced. The love story was adorable, and I felt like Arek really deserved his happily ever after. The author did a great job with really making the reader feel the emotion of the characters. I got book 2 as an ARC at Comic Con and rushed to preorder books 3 and 4. The characters are so lovable, and I couldn’t help but laugh so hard with all of Kianthe’s puns. There was action, adventure, love, and romance, and…dragons and magic! Everything I absolutely love in a book. I had never heard of the cozy fantasy genre before, but boy was it cozy, and I enjoyed reading this book while sipping a cup of tea. I’m going to definitely be reading more from this genre. My whole life I suffered from chronic depression and anxiety that medication couldn’t even help. I felt stuck in a life that I wasn’t happy with. I felt like it was hard for me to make lasting friendships, I felt so alone in my life, though I had several people who loved and cared about me. I couldn’t be happy. I wasn’t allowed to be because of my own intrusive thoughts. All of that changed when I started writing my first book in 2022… As someone who suffers from chronic depression, there are many days where I just go into “survival mode.” This is where I think to myself, “just survive today. Just one more day…” I know that this may seem surprising to most people, but it’s a struggle that I live with every day. Just living and breathing feels like a chore, and I find myself surviving, but not living and not thriving and thinking about what my purpose is in life and why I’m even here to begin with. It’s not something that I can control sometimes. I have friends who want to help but don’t know how, and I have several others who just don’t know the extent of my depression or how hard it is sometimes for me to just live day to day like everyone else. I am self abusive in the sense that I constantly am telling myself that I’m not good enough. No matter how much I succeed, it’s just not good enough. I’m always a failure to myself. When Freak Show was published in 2023, everything changed. I found a new joy in being creative that I never thought to explore. I became motivated to keep writing and publishing books, not only for others, but for myself. It’s the way I was able to control my emotions and intrusive thoughts. Putting my emotions out on a page really helped me thrive instead of just survive. Though it’s not a cure, and I still struggle with depression, I have something I can look forward to doing at the end of the day. I appreciate everyone who has supported me so far in my author journey, and if you are thinking of writing a book, I encourage you to do it!
