Here’s another in Bethesda (left). There’s another example near Twinbrook metro, but I don’t have pictures of that one.

After reaching the New River, it’s a steady downhill until the flatter ground of the Kanawha River, near Montgomery WV.

I recorded speed and elevation for a few sections. From Charlottesville we climb to cross the Blue Ridge mountains into the Shenandoah valley before climbing again near the West Virginia border. The second climb is over the Eastern Continental Divide!

The scenery on this route is really wonderful! The train passes the Shenandoah Valley and along the Greenbrier and New Rivers in WV.
