Platform works at New Carrollton! This is for the mainline rail station (Amtrak+MARC) next to the Metro.

The canopy for the Purple Line-Red Line transfer is coming along! Looks mostly done except for the actual roof pieces. @purplelinemd.bsky.social

CaBi station in Adams Morgan has all electric bikes. Part of a planned shift or just a coincidence?

Love to see ads for driving at the train station 🤔🤔

Spotted the Empire Builder in the Columbia River Gorge! One of the most scenic Amtrak routes! 🏞️🚆

My first time taking a bike on the MARC train! Pretty convenient option!

Here’s another in Bethesda (left). There’s another example near Twinbrook metro, but I don’t have pictures of that one.

Is there a term for the kind of modern art deco architecture shown here? This example is in Rockville town center.

After living with the new better bus routes for a few months, I find the new numbers more intuitive. I like how the downtown routes increase from east to west to give a sense of the route!

Public art and seating around Farragut Square is looking good! There is really a lot of seating!

Progress on the Silver Spring @purplelinemd.bsky.social station! The silver structures will house the stairs and elevator to/from street level. The station is part of the bus/transit center next to the metro station.

I was in Pittsburgh last weekend and got too check out some bike infrastructure! Some good stuff out there, and much of the city is a good density for biking.

After reaching the New River, it’s a steady downhill until the flatter ground of the Kanawha River, near Montgomery WV.

I recorded speed and elevation for a few sections. From Charlottesville we climb to cross the Blue Ridge mountains into the Shenandoah valley before climbing again near the West Virginia border. The second climb is over the Eastern Continental Divide!

The scenery on this route is really wonderful! The train passes the Shenandoah Valley and along the Greenbrier and New Rivers in WV.

Scenes from the Amtrak Cardinal last week! I rode from DC to West Virginia. The Cardinal starts takes a slow route through the mountains west from the northeast corridor, reaching Cincinnati overnight and Chicago the next day.

I love the eyes on MARC cab cars 😅 I don’t love that they run diesel trains on the electrified Penn Line 😢

Potomac water taxi passing the Frederick Douglas bridge. (This is a special game day service.)

Nats Park also offers a great bike valet. This gets good use, but not more the 100-200 bikes from what I've seen. Bikeshare is also available with ~100 dock spaces in the area.

Metro ridership at Navy Yard-Ballpark peaks on game days! The station sees ~18-22K riders for home games (32K on weekend opener), compared to ~8-10K on non-game weekdays (~5K weekends). 10-12K park-bound Metro riders is a bit under 50% of the 24K average attendance at Nat's park!

Pointless bike lane parking. Some drivers misunderstand or ignore the parking lines. While flex posts don’t really protect the bike lane, they do often prevent this kind of weird behavior.
