A gem of a museum on the campus of the Santa Rosa Junior College featuring the Elsie Allen Pomo Basket Collection, which was collected and curated by Allen and her mother, Annie Burke. The collection lives at SRJC at the request of Elsie Allen's family.

An Ofrenda is a sacred altar in Latinx and Chicanx traditions, honoring deceased loved ones during Día de los Muertos. The SRJC Museum features an Ofrenda set up by the Chicanx and Latinx History class, which will be up until November 5th.

An ancient Greek vase in the shape of a lobster claw! 🦞

It’s suggested this fantastic vessel was used as a novelty cup at drinking parties some 2,500 years ago! 🥴

My photo shows a Greek red-figure terracotta vase in the shape of a lobster claw - in the red-figure style the vase is painted black and figures in red. There is a red donkey painted on one side of the claw vase. The vessel has a funnel-shaped vertical mouth and a strap handle which runs from the bottom of the mouth across the length of vase to just before the pincers. Dimensions 7 x 7.3 cm. On display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The Met info says: Because so many aspects of Greek life depended on the sea, a vase in the shape of a lobster claw is not surprising. It is, however, exceptional and may be a variant of the askos— a bag-shaped oil container provided with a vertical mouth and strap handle. The Dionysiac iconography of the lobster claw suggests that it was a novelty item used at symposia (drinking parties).
