Glad to have helped out in securing this Labour hold, despite various dirty tricks played by certain other parties. Even if polling day was wet, it was very fruitful.

If I totally forgot about being here, the only way I'd return is by pretending nothing of the sort ever happened.

Today is by-election day in Rochdale and while there are no "good" candidates I sincerely hope for the sake of our country's wellbeing that George Galloway does not win a seat - and a way to spread his divisive rhetotic.

After raw chicken was served at Old Trafford, Trafford Council have given Manchester United a food hygiene rating of 1 (major improvement necessary), criticising food hygiene and food safety practices

United say this was an "isollated issue" and that they "maintain the highest culinary standards".

The fact that a plastic bag getting stuck on the overhead wires cancelled all trains between London and Crewe/Manchester is a simple but great example of why HS2 is still needed in the north.

Just to be clear, I have not seen anybody who has urged the BBC too unselect Olly Alexander as our Eurovision entrant - in fact, most people are quite happy about it!
At this point we're making up outraged people so we have woke things to write about.
@Telegraph: The BBC has been urged to drop Britain’s entrant at next year’s Eurovision Song Contest after it emerged he had signed a letter calling Israel an “apartheid regime” and criticising “Zionist propaganda”

🇮🇳India: Opposition INDIA bloc (left-of-centre) MPs will march against the BJP (right-wing) government's decision to suspend 97 lower and 56 upper house MPs.
They asked questions to the union minister about a security breach on 13/12, where two men gained access to the parliament building.

At CPC23, the Conservative Party embraced conspiracy theorists, adopting ideas against net zero and 15-minute cities, both of which are generally popular.
Rishi Sunak sitting down with Elon Musk for an interview proves how far down the rabbit hole they are - and it is bad for democracy in the UK.

I genuinely still can't believe there are people who actually like Flowers, like it sounds incredibly bland and it is serving absolutely nothing
Just like the entire Endless Summer Vacation album, not a single really good song there

The significance of this - if you remember seeing *that* "poll" claiming Muslims were boycotting Labour over Gaza, this shows how wrong you can be.
25% of residents here identify as Muslim. And yet there was basically no change in results. Muslim voters may be unhappy, but stil voting for Labour.
In Waltham Forest, Labour hold their councillor in Higham Hill, with 57.3% of the vote. The Conservatives come last and lose their deposit.

In the safer Trinity ward in Burnley, the Greens lose vote share but continue to comfortably hold on in this three-party battle.

The Greens narrowly hold on to the Lancashire County ward of Burnley Central West despite a three-way battle between them, the Conservatives and Labour.

Labour hold the Earlsdon ward in Coventry on a reduced majority. That leaves Burnley and Lancashire (which is also technically Burnley) to go, both defended by the Greens.

In Herefordshire, Matthew Engel has won the local by-election for the Golden Valley South ward, vacated following the death of the former council. It is effectively a hold, as he is set to serve with the same group of Independent councillors.

Are there any interesting local by-elections tonight? Not really, no.

Am I going to stay up and see the results come in? Absolutely.

Polls are open in Burnley, Herefordshire, Lancashire and Waltham Forest.

No real surprise there.
Wellingborough is pretty safe as a seat last time I checked, will be interesting if Labour can climb the mountain to win here. Of course if they do win it would further prove how zombie the current government is
Peter Bone has now been suspended for six weeks so recall petition triggered. What a sad loss for British politics that will be.

On Sunak's 1 year anniversary as PM, his leadership can only be described as a hot mess. While being generally indecisive, he has allowed himself to be swayed by the most extreme members of the Tories and has firmly rebranded as populist, while at the same time scrapping popular schemes like HS2.
