1968 doesn't seem that long ago. Started a long career thanks to the terrific subs and senior staff at the Perth (Western Australia) Dail News who beat a modicum of sense into me.

Sixty years ago today I was with my family on the Castel Felice. We'd just passed through the Suez Canal on our way to Fremantle for a new life. I had my 16th birthday cruising across the Indian Ocean. My Dad camera right.

There will come a time when Donald Trump is not the President of the United States. Sycophants and toadies will fear retribution as they have throughout history. Future historians will study the rise of sycophantocracy in Donald Trump's USA and its ultimate and predictable fall.

I got an advertisement for cigarettes on Facebook today. I haven't smoked since 1974 and have never mentioned smoking or cigarettes. Facebook does not have human interaction it is impossible to engage with it. It should also know that cigarette advertising is banned in Australia. Minus-6 out of 10.

I have become inured to shooting deaths in the United States. The killing of Charlie Kirk is sad for his family but pragmatically just another. It is not surprising in a nation where gun ownership is more important than the lives of children and gun-deaths are a daily occurrence.

There is no such thing as "Government money." There are only taxpayer funds. We elect politicians to manage our money for our and the nation's benefit.

107 years ago today my Dad was born. In his lifetime he saw the advent of air travel, the emergence of the motor vehicle, took part in a World War, and moved from the wilds of Shropshire, England, to the wilds of Mosman Park in Western Australia.

Vladimir Putin needs to take a leaf out of NATO Sec Gen Mark Rutte and heap gushing praise on President Trump. He'll get everything he wants. Let's hope he doesn't ask for the return of Alaska.

Wordle today: KEFIR. Sorry if you haven't done it yet but seriously it is obscure. Kefir is a fermented milk drink similar to a thin yogurt made from kefir grains, a specific type of mesophilic symbiotic culture. It is prepared by inoculating the milk of cows, goats, or sheep with kefir grains.

@fionadolman.bsky.social Just watching a classic Midsomer here in Nabiac, New South Wales, Australia with one of your most memorable lines: "Oh look, it's just started snowing." (The Christmas Haunting). Thanks for the memories.

Not much reporting here in Australia on the death of Tom Lehrer (97), the brilliant satirist of the 1960s. Not surprising considering he retired 60 years ago. He was one of my heroes (along with people like Pete Seeger)) who resonated with my emerging psyche.

The media industry is evolving faster than accountants can think. It has got rid of those who anticipated change, thought of new ways of doing things and planned for the future. Just chugging along doing the same things expecting different results and waiting for the grim reaper to wield his scythe.

Gotta love NATO for playing President Trump like a Stradivarius violin. Praise him, suck up to him, bow down to him and ensure continued (if not increased) US funding for NATO. Brilliant.

In 1968 I was in the draft for conscription to fight in Vietnam. Thanks to pure luck I wasn't chosen. It was an unwinnable war led by the United States. Here we are 57 years later with the United States bombing Iran. Australia must stay out of another unwinnable war.
