I think it's top use is likely "Alexa play BBC Radio 4" when I'm working in the kitchen 🤣

That's something I was so against, having a device openly listening to everything I say. But I got one as part of a bundle with my alarm system, idea being I could easily see who's at the door. Not super impressed with that functionality as it turns out.

There can be an argument made for buying the albums & then also streaming so the artist gets a little something for every play, though that relies on the streaming platform paying a fair rate for *every* play. Which is not the case with Spotify.

My default is to buy music, store it on my NAS and then play it back from there. I use Plex which allows me to have stuff stored locally on my phone for car use. Qobuz used when I just want to dip in & try something, or find something unusual for me.

Streaming is handy for trying out new artists, but I have, for a long time now, rejected Spotify due to their poor record on artist payment and other moral issues. Dipping my toe in with Qobuz, until I hear any Bad Things which might put me off.

Very much agree regarding artists getting paid fairly. Qobuz does seem to pay significantly more than other platforms, but buying an album will still pay more than hundreds of streams would. And it's Bandcamp Friday on Dec 5th. 100% of payments go to the artist. blog.bandcamp.com/2025/03/04/w...

Excellent! Thank you so much. Several artists I recognise on the list so far, so I will be keen to hear the others I'm not familiar with. 11pm suits my schedule a bit better today. Thank you. Will tune in tonight 😁🎶

Sorry.. Bluesky links... I was just commenting on another thread about it being BC Friday on Dec 5th and I'm only on my 2nd mug of coffee 😁

Excellent. Just a shame I didnt spot your post earlier. Now 11am UK 😱 Any way to catch up? And great that you provide BC links to the artists 👍

Just an aside here: Bandcamp Friday coming up on Dec 5th. There is *so much* great music being made by independent artists, artists that don't comply with 'the algorithm'. Yes, it can take a bit of work to find your thing, but it's out there.

Beautiful! I was there a week ago, just a day trip on the last day of a break in York. I really want to get back up there and stay in Whitby for a couple of nights. Also: love Whitby Gin 😁
