It’s the “other”ing aspect that allows them to condemn someone *other* than themselves. LOTS of churches leave young people with feelings of self loathing, guilt, and shame.

The easiest way to escape that guilt and shame is say “but THESE are the real sinners and THEY are worse than me.”

Greed, corruption, and gluttony they can all justify subconsciously bc we all share those traits or are vulnerable to behaving in that manner.

However, it is extremely easy to “other” LGBT communities and individuals who seek abortions bc “Christians” wouldn’t do those things.

Of course they’ll agree about elites and corruption. It’s obvious, and they’re not blind. But some of them are simply NEVER going to vote for a Dem bc they believe the “individual behavior” of being LGBT or getting an abortion is sinful, and that is the worst form of sin.

And why?

Because those are individual social issues. And they are taught in their churches that individual personal behavior is the apex of determining “good” v “sinner.”

there are so many trump voters that you could walk through a Bernie or AOC type platform with and they will agree with you the WHOLE way until you get to:

Abortion and LGBT issues (and more recently Israel).

This is especially true of Southern evangelicals or “hell fire” preachers. These places will solely focus on individual behavior and sin. They may say “be good to people” but they will spend ALL their time in church talking about what we are all doing *wrong*

just give Bernie a weekend to convince you
