Queer, disabled Guelphite and Accessibility Specialist.

Previous (resigned in protest of ableism) City of Guelph Accessibility Advisory Committee chair, Canadian Centre for Disability Studies board member, Guelph Independent Living board member, & more
They had to reopen applications for Guelph’s Accessibility Advisory Committee.

Only one of the previous members reapplied, the rest of us quit, and the city obviously didn’t get enough new applicants.

It’s almost like if you ignore and lie to disabled people enough, we stop wanting to engage. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Last night I went downtown to honour the lives we’ve lost to drug poisonings and the people who’ve been abandoned by yesterday’s closure of the Consumption and Treatment Services site. Sincerest Thanks to the staff who kept this site running, preventing countless drug poisoning deaths & overdoses. ❤️‍🩹

What stage of grief is it when you give yourself side bangs with a kitchen knife at 4am on the day of your friend’s funeral and then clean them up with scissors in a hotel bathroom a couple of days later? Asking for a friend.

This is pretty cool, some folks at the University of Guelph asked me to write their post for International Disability Day (also known as “International Day for Persons with Disabilities”, but if you read the article you’ll find out why a lot of us don’t like to call it that).

I’ll be speaking at this event on Friday as part of their speaker series. My talk will be called “Human Beings and Numbers; Let’s Not Conflate the Two”. Should be a good event, I hope to see a good turnout!

Another one of my rats died last night, this is crushing. I am not doing well. He was one of my best friends. I’ve had him for almost 3 years. I don’t know how I’m supposed to deal with losing two pets less than a month apart.

Rest peacefully, Edmund. I’ll never stop missing you.

This little rascal has loved me since the day we met. His brothers are still warming up to me, be he leaps out of his cage to come snuggle me at every chance he gets

Number 1 on the list of unintentionally ableist things I hope people stop doing forever: calling people like me “differently abled”. Here comes a BIG old thread about why I hate it so much...
