This year has been a doozy. Professionally, I've been fired, re-hired, villainized, shot at, and furloughed. But, I'm still standing...for now. Hoping for some normalcy and calm in 2026.

Hi everyone. After focusing on family following my wife losing her federal job in February, I'm back on Bluesky with not great news...I have now also been terminated from my position at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after nearly 10 years as a civil servant.

Haven't had to build a resume in 10 years, but it's not looking good out there (IYKYK). Anyone in communications/marketing/PR willing to take a look at mine and see how it comes across so far?

My wife, a public servant with the CDC, was unjustly fired from her job today, along with hundreds and hundreds of others. It's all so senseless and sad.

Saw Captain America: Brave New World last night and I'm starting to mirror my wife's feelings that all the movies require too much background knowledge to get the full picture. Marvel movies need to start like TV shows with a 2-minute "Previously On..." preamble.

Whenever I feel nostalgic for the Chicago where I spent part of my youth, I watch this video of Chicago's favorite son, George Wendt. (JK) Did you know George was a Second City Alum? Now you do. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Zfn...

Those who've been following me since the other site may know that I have a side hustle running an antiques booth. We'll, this is my last month at this location as they raised rent AND commissions (now 20%!). It was a good run here, but I'm not done yet...
Refreshed my antiques booth yesterday! Baseball cards and comic books are the best sellers by far, but I love having variety and eye candy.

Oddball pick, but this is a great retro-themed video. Guy goes camping in a 70s camper wagon complete with fondue, tuna helper, and so many other great 70s details. fun! www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcOP...

Not to be negative Nancy here, but work has really sucked since...oh, I don't know...January 20th or so. Today was especially depressing. Wish I could scream more explicitly into the void, but IYKYK.

I miss the blogosphere and google RSS reader. It was fun waking up in the morning, grabbing a cup of coffee, and checking my feed to see what my fellow niche, dorky internet friends had to share.

Check out this Windows 95 iPhone I saw on Reddit! (u/buffaloprocess)

Impractical case? Sure. Cool as Hell? Yep.

Liquor store clerk: "You're over 21, right?"

Me: "I watched the Challenger explode live. Yes."

Sky hive, I want to go to the theater. Should I watch Wolf Man or Nosferatu?

The tabletop gaming convention I run is going pretty hard for a Friday night! This is Dice + Diversions 2nd year. I'll try and post more pics this weekend, but I get busy and forget.

Made a rare trip to Wal-Mart last night and was greeted with the return of Mad Balls...with...HAIR??! Price checked for only $5.27, but didn't feel the need to pick one up.

Ok, so what are some good non-Christmas winter movies to watch on a snowy day?
January 10, 2025 at 4:05 PM
Not so sure about the snow.
January 10, 2025 at 3:03 PM
It's snowing in NE Georgia! Being a kid from Chicago, it does my heart wonders to get a blanket of snow in the South. Here's a view from my front door. Still coming down!

I'm in love with this person on Reddit who maintains a late '70s/early '80s aesthetic in their home. It looks so cozy! Love the attention to detail. Beyond the wood paneled walls: Black&Decker coffee pot, yarn quilt, shag carpeting. www.reddit.com/r/HomeDecora...

Scored a pretty epic '90s comic collection from the original owner today. Like reliving my childhood.

Cool. Stern Pinball just announced their first game for 2025: 'Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant's Eye.' Comes with a fire-breathing (read: pinball-shooting) dragon voice by Michael Dorn. Looks rad.

Man, most days I don't regret giving up that PR-chasing, internet writer grind, but when you are given the out-of-the-blue opportunity for a behind-the-scenes set visit to 'The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs,' it hurts to say no.
