Anytime I hear the phrase "We need to restore trust in (news, higher ed, science, government, democracy, etc.)" there's a refusal to acknowledge the well-funded, right-wing machine at the heart of destroying that trust.

What sorts of utility regulatory features in Europe would you like to see applied in the US?

Or, is “less regulation” (more competition) needed to mitigate the utility incentive structure that rewards building stuff, or is “better regulation” (e.g. performance-based regulation) needed?

If California covered all its major canals and aqueducts, it could generate 13 GW and save 63 billion gallons of water. That’s enough water for 2 million people and to irrigate 50,000 acres of agriculture. ☀️💧🔌💡

I planted a rain garden earlier this summer with lots of milkweed and now it’s starting to pay off with monarch caterpillars.

Not gonna happen in this Congress, but one potential solution is to force Congress to vote 90 days (or some other time window) after a president declares an emergency on whether to affirm/continue the state of emergency (and every 90 days thereafter). Otherwise the emergency ends.

Thankfully other groups are archiving these tools and data, but it’s really disheartening to see this happen real-time in front of a bunch of highly motivated students who want to make a difference in the world. insideclimatenews.org/news/0402202...

I had EJScreen pulled up on my computer from an hour or two earlier and was ready to talk about it in class, and sure enough when I tried to use it in class, it was no longer working. When I refreshed, I got an access denied message.

At the start of the lecture, I advised that students should download as much as they can now, as we have no idea if or when one of these websites will be taken offline, as is what happened to CEJST a few days ago.

For the past few years in our Energy Analysis and Policy capstone course, I’ve given a demonstration of free, publicly available, user-friendly tools that are useful for energy analysis and policy projects. Many of them are from federal sources, such as EPA or DOE national labs.
