A delightful orgy of #Snooker awaits this week - thank you, BBC. Currently watching Si Jiahui, a man whose name means "yes" in three languages, none of them his own.

I've commented twice in The Times today. Both comments were referred to moderators. One dismissed as "cheating" the feat of balancing on one leg whilst doing yoga underwater: the other described the climbers who have just ascended Nepal's Jannu East as "nutters" #nosenseofhumour

I've learned a bit of music history over the just couple of days. I never knew that Stewart Copeland was in Curved Air, or that Trevor Horn was behind Art Of Noise.

A dispassionate analysis of actual data undermines the popular belief (amplified by uncritical viewing of social media) that crime, health issues and wealth inequality are all on the rise in the UK. They aren't.

Violent, lawless, broken Britain? The facts tell a different story
The populist narrative of a migrant-driven crimewave is catnip on social media and oil to the wheels of Reform. But it is so far from the truth that we’re in danger of losing sight of the country we l...

Tom Lehrer has died at the age of 97. I've loved his songs (even performed some of them) since I first heard them over 60 years ago. This is one of my favourites - a 90-second masterclass in storytelling in song. m.youtube.com/watch?v=I9C2...

I fear that I've slipped through to an alternate reality.

I suppose that Bluesky is an appropriate place to air my concern.

Many people of around my age seem to be unaware of the #shingles #vaccine. I would encourage all of them to give very serious consideration to getting it, and perhaps this article might purified an incentive. #dementia www.thetimes.com/article/5f2f...
Could the shingles vaccine stop you from getting dementia?

It's very convenient of the heavens to arrange an astronomical event which I can photograph at a convenient time, in my own garden, with gear that I happen to have lying around. This is a very rare and precious thing.

I've just noticed that one of the pints of milk from our milkman is of a different colour to all the others. What could this mean? Should I be concerned? Do I need this philosophical angst first thing in the morning?

Just heard the announcement from the BBC that Triple Crown #Snooker events will be on terrestrial TV until at least 2032. So it's worth keeping the TV after all.

I've been sitting idly around the house for days now, and I'm beginning to feel guilty about my lack of activity.

That all changes next week.

There's snooker on the box, so I shan't feel guilty.

Watching and enjoying the #PDCWorldChampionships, I'm astonished by the singing ability of the crowd. Over the course of the competition, the tune of "Walking in a Winter Wonderland" has had serious abuse of tuning as well as wording.
