I suspect after the end title card Kitty would eventually become enraged about Alan lying to her for all those years. Still dark angel is an enjoyable and touching romantic melodrama they don’t make anymore. #tcmparty

Dark angel and random harvest would make a fine double feature #TCMParty

Who’s the actor playing the enraged blind war veteran? He made the most of his scene. #tcmparty

Fredric March is a good actor but he’s not at his best when doing romantic love scenes #tcmparty

Looking forward to Merle Oberon star of the month. I plan to watch some of her films including Dark Angel coming up now which I’ve never seen before. And if you want to learn more about Oberon I highly recommend this book published earlier this year #TCMParty

In its own twisted way love machine is fairly progressive in its portrayal of gay rights and homophobic societal attitudes #tcmparty

In the book Maggie is a major character and one who sets bed on fire not a hanger on after thought in the movie #tcmparty

The direction of love machine is a big problem. Vert flat like a daytime soap. A trashy story like this needs a flamboyant trashy over the top approach #tcmparty

The character Jerry in this is a combination of 3 characters in the book: Jerry a married man in the closet, Giorgio an openly gay man whose a caretaker for robins invalid mother and Dip Nelson a has been actor who becomes a hanger on to Robin #tcmparty

Connoisseur of crap and talk about buying bad tv projects in a movie as bad as this really gives love machine a meta quality as unintended as it may be #tcmparty

The fashions in love machine are gaudy! #tcmparty

Why did Robert Ryan accept a part in this? Was he having financial problems and needed a paycheck? #TCMParty

Watching The Love Machine which I’ve never seen before. Let’s see if it’s as trashy and as camp as valley of the dolls #TCMParty

His glorious night was awful but the film history buff in me was pleased to finally see it and the restoration of print was excellent. It’s a must see for anyone interested in early talkies as bad as it is #TCMParty
November 14, 2025 at 5:42 AM
Has any film featured the line “I love you” as many times as His glorious night? #TCMParty
November 14, 2025 at 5:39 AM
His glorious night is showing how one very bad movie can make an audience turn against a top star. It wasn’t guys voice it was the material and co star and director he was saddled with. #TCMParty

Catherine Dale Owen may have a decent voice but she’s a dreadful actress. A Lina Lamont actress would have been more entertaining in this part #TCMParty

Lionel Barrymore is as bad a film director as he is as good a character actor. #tcmparty

“Cru-el” oh dear! The mid Atlantic mgm vocal coach worked too much on Gilbert #TCMParty
November 14, 2025 at 4:43 AM
Ok it’s not that Gilbert’s voice was squeaky but his performance is very hammy, he’s stuck with bad farce dialogue and his co star Catherine Dale Owen is a very declarative performer ie an obvious bad actress. And stiffness of early talkie filming doesn’t help. #tcmparty

Staying up late so I can finally see the infamous early talkie His Glorious Night which got silent star John Gilbert’s talkie career off to a horrible start. Was it his voice? Or the dialogue and story? #tcmparty
