We’re arguing the same point, I’m an environmentalist, I just think the message of “save the planet” isn’t as impactful. I want us to take care of the world for all life, but saying “save the planet” makes it sound like we are doing the Earth a favor whereas we are doing ourselves the favor.

Earth, as in the rocky planet, will be fine no matter what we do. It doesn’t have purpose because we are on it. The sun will destroy the Earth, but that has nothing to do with us. We could kill ourselves and similar life forms off; new life may adapt. We need to save ourselves, not the earth.

We are not “saving the planet”. We are trying to keep the planet habitable for ourselves. Earth will be fine even if we kill ourselves off.

Just for context, the year Neptune was discovered was the same year the Liberty Bell was cracked and one year after Texas became a state. The math they could do back then was incredible.
