Do you like sports? Do you like space? Do you wonder what team Mars pulls for? If so, you've come to the right place.
LL Pegasi is a binary star system surrounded by a spiral nebula, formed by stellar winds from one star interacting with its companion's gravity. This creates a stunning spiral shape in the surrounding dust and gas. The system is also ready for more #NBA playoffs. #Knicks #Pacers #NBAPlayoffs #Sports

Tycho crater’s central peak on the Moon rises about 1.6 km high and formed from the rebound of the lunar surface after the impact. Scientists believe it holds clues to the Moon’s interior, making it a prime target for future exploration and research. It’s also an #Athletics fan. #MLB #Baseball #A’s

A potential dwarf planet has been discovered in the outer reaches of our solar system, orbiting beyond Neptune. Its presence there challenges the existence of a hypothetical body known as Planet 9 or Planet X. After last night, it’s also a #Pacers fan. #NBA #NBAPlayoffs #Basketball #IndianaPacers

For #WNBA Opening Day, the double dwarf planet system of Pluto and Charon are wearing their #NYLiberty and #LasVegasAces gear. Pluto and Charon are so similar in size they orbit a common center of mass, called the barycenter, that lies outside of Pluto . #Liberty #Aces #Basketball #WomensSports

The Synchronous Meteorological Satellite, launched on May 17 1974 by NASA, was the first geostationary weather satellite. Matching Earth’s orbital speed, it stays fixed over one spot, providing constant weather data for improved forecasting. It’s also a #49ers fan and loves the new Purdy contract.

RIP to a real one. Ed Smylie, a NASA engineer on the ground—not aboard Apollo 13—helped save the crew by devising a way to fix a failing CO₂ filter. Using duct tape and onboard materials, his quick thinking enabled the astronauts to survive and return home safely.

In the 1800s scientists noticed Uranus’s orbit was irregular. With Newtonian Physics mathematicians Urbain Le Verrier & John Couch Adams predicted a new planet's position. Neptune was discovered in 1846 by Johann Galle with a telescope. Both planets are ready for the #Knicks vs the #Celtics tonight.

On May 14, 1973, NASA launched Skylab, the first American space station. Skylab orbited Earth for six years and supported three crewed missions during which astronauts conducted hundreds of science experiments. Also, congrats to the #Pacers for winning their series. #IndianaPacers #NBA #NBAPlayoffs

BepiColombo is a joint mission comprised of two spacecraft riding together to Mercury to orbit and to study the planet from unique vantage points. European Space Agency (ESA) provided one orbiter and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) supplied the second orbiter. This one is a #Celtics fan.

The Flower Moon will be 100% illuminated at 12:56 PM EDT today (May 12), which sets the stage for a dramatic lunar entry when the full moon rises over the southeastern horizon around 8:30 PM local time. The moon, who supports the #Cubs, will appear full for another night or two. #ChicagoCubs #MLB

May's full moon, known as the 'Flower Moon' is set to rise in the night sky on May 12. It is known as the 'Flower Moon' due to the abundant seasonal wildflower blooms that appear during this time of year. Congrats to the #Padres for moving into first and #HappyMothersDay to all the Moms out there.

On May 9, 2003, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency launched the first asteroid sample return mission, Hayabusa. It would spend two years chasing down an asteroid called 25143 Itokawa. It then landed on the asteroid, got some samples, and returned to Earth in 2010 when it became a #Capitals fan.

The Soviet Union's failed Kosmos 482 spacecraft will crash to Earth in the coming days after 50+ years in orbit. The lander was made to survive passage through the Venus atmosphere, so it may survive reentry through the Earth atmosphere and impact intact. After last night, it’s also a #Thunder fan.

Saturn's Hexagon is a unique cloud pattern with sides that span 9,000 miles, with each side larger than Earth's diameter, and walls 190 miles high. The shape is a result of jet streams created by the storm in the planet's polar region. The storm is, unsurprisingly, a Hurricanes fan. #Hurricanes #NHL

A massive group of sunspots, designated Active Region 4079, is visible on the surface of the Sun between late April and early May 2025. The group is so big that its size is comparable to that of the planet Jupiter. They are also wishing the Pacers and the Cavs luck in this series. #Pacers #Cavs #NBA

Charon is the largest of Pluto's five moons at 754 miles across while Pluto is 1,400 miles wide. At half the size of Pluto, Charon is the largest known satellite relative to its parent body. The same surfaces of Charon and Pluto always face each other, a phenomenon called mutual tidal locking.

The best candidate for Planet Nine has been spotted in two deep infrared surveys taken 23 years apart. If this object really is Planet Nine, it would have a mass greater than Neptune, currently be about 700 times farther from the sun than Earth is, and would be a Knicks fan. #Knicks #NBA #SportsSky

Deimos is the smaller and outer of the two satellites of Mars with a radius of 3.9 mi. Deimos is likely an asteroid captured by Mars, but its orbit is slowly getting larger and is expected to eventually escape Mars's gravity. It also wants to congratulate the Timberwolves for winning their series.

Why is the Big Bang Theory a Theory? It's due to Hubble's law which says that galaxies are moving away from Earth at speeds proportional to their distance. In other words, the farther a galaxy is from Earth, the faster it moves away. Hubble's law has been brought to you by the Washington Nationals.
