I dare say this book release has impeccable timing. However, getting my author copies just in time for Halloween might have caused a less-than-serious approach to this post. 🎃 #criminology

I finally got around to turning what started as a presentation at ESC in Florence a couple of years ago into an article in CMC! 🥳

Open access, and lots of pictures! (Somehow, the PDF has better photo placements than the online layout)

Important information for anyone attending the European Society of Criminology in Athens and for members of ESC. Petition outlines serious concerns. Consider what you can do to support 👇👇 👇#eurocrim
ESC colleagues: petition & important vote at the General Assembly. If not boycotting, vote. Or a 3rd option: use presentation time to discuss complicity and promote attendance at the GE?

I'm scheduled to present on asylum seekers & everyday resistance. It would be unethical if I didn't resist too
... and if you still intend to attend, get behind the motion to be discussed and voted on at the General Assembly of the 25th Eurocrim Annual Conference, on 05.09.2025 at 13:00

I won’t be at the ESC this year, but at least it’s fun to be there in print ✨
This is my pile of books to take to the ESC conference in Athens next week. I honestly don't think they will all fit, so apologies in advance.... Looking forward to hitting the road again and talking #criminology with current and future authors and editors.

Frances Crook är trött på att politiker struntar i forskningen, som enligt henne är glasklar: repression funkar inte för att stävja brott.

Publication day! @spookademic.bsky.social and I wrote a book, deep diving into the struggles involved in desistance from crime and - crucially - dealing with concepts of normalcy from a position as outsider.
Desistance, Resistance, and Normalcy
This book provides a nuanced, critical analysis of desistance from crime, particularly through the lens of women’s experiences. It develops desistance theory by interrogating the concept of normalcy, ...

As universities engage in more "death spiral" cuts to academia, we need to focus on the intense bureaucratisation of the C21 university.
