I ride by these tiny little ponies out near Potsdam every few months and they are ALWAYS eating, no matter what time of day or year I happen to pass by. No wonder they are almost as wide as they are tall.

Black Friday, coming soon.

Pretty sure Trump didn't follow "screwing" with "with"

Yes, but they don't look very appetizing. Also the recipe calls for 200 ml of wine, which seems inappropriate for 6th graders.

Either @nytimes.com is doing some serious A/B testing or someone decided the initial "Did Women Ruin the Workplace" hed was over the line. Either way, yuck.

Brave souls jumped into the 13 C #Spree today to pressure the #CDU-led city government to allow swimming in the river. (No one's quite sure why they're against, except that it doesn't have to do with cars or the suburbs.) As someone prone to hypothermia I stayed dry–aber im Frühling bin ich dabei!

Just got my absentee ballot for Prop. 50 here in Berlin (California likes to make it easy for all Californians to vote, so weird and small-d democratic). Will definitely be sending this one home ASAP.

I should have known the last day of a 3-day weekend was a bad time to board @deutschebahn.com. I've been on the train for 1 1/2 hours and we are already 50 minutes delayed.

At least I didn't bring my bike.

Oh, hell no

For those of you who find cycling doesn't offer enough stimulation or fresh air, this suite of handlebar electronics comes complete with TWO cell phones and an electric fan. (Spotted at Berlin's consumer electronics trade fair.)

In the Internet Age everyone is a plumber. Also now I know how these mysterious wall-mounted Eurotoilets work, and I am unimpressed.

Polish soldiers conscripted into the Wehrmacht during WWII often proved to be very reluctant to fight on behalf of Germany, but it's interesting to think about what "Polish" means in the context of border areas that had been contested for centuries. (text from S. Ambrose's "D-Day")

Shoutout to Czech Rail @ceskedrahyofficial.bsky.social for making up a 15 minute delay coming from Slovakia to catch my Prague-Berlin connection, serving a lovely dinner in shades of Bohemian brown, mostly functional WiFi and AC, and general friendliness. #traintravel #train

This Car & Driver cover is a little too on the nose. When cars are imagined as instruments of violence rather than transportation it's no wonder people drive them that way. #waroncars

Fascinated at the idea of "Dresden-style Worcester Sauce." Like New York-style Chicago pizza," or "Berlin-style chicken Kyiv"

When I was just getting into cycling, Samuel Abt's "In High Gear" was like an insider's introduction to the lore of a world I knew nothing about. I listened to this book on tape on the way to races. I always thought it would be cool to interview him. Sad to hear he died last week, at the age of 91.
