#booksky The Lost Year by Katherine Marsh is great. I learned a lot about the Holodomor, the statvation in Ukraine in the 1930's caused by Stalin, and was entertained. The audiobook narrator nails it.

Cartographers by Peng Shepherd

Really neat concept and magical realism, but the story was a bit lacking. 4 stars out of 5 - though likely more of a 3

#booksky Recent read - Dawn by Yoshiki Tanaka. I usually read fantasy and not much scifi. This book didn't hit for me, but not because it was scifi. Instead, it just felt like too many battles, too little story.

#Seahawks. I saw the report of the Raiders wanting to trade for Walker. I really like Walker, but it would make sense to trade him if the value is right considering his injury. A guard or center in exchange would be great. We could draft Skattebo in the 3rd and Charb take over the starting role.

I really enjoyed Scythe by Neal Shusterman. I just finished the sequel, Thunderhead, and it wasn't as great. It focused more on the politics of the dystopia than on the character building. I hope this book set the foundation for a great last book to the series.

I have listened to 5 books of the "Who was..." series of biographies. They have been awesome for road trips. Each book is about 1 hour in length and I've learned about interesting folks from history with my kid. We've done:

Franklin
Nelson Mandela
Ghengis Khan
Marie Curie
Walt Whitman

I listened on audiobook. The narrator did a solid job. She has a British accent, but it didn't make it harder to understand.

This is a detective type book, but the detective is a really smart 12 year-old girl. It has the laugh to yourself quietly type humor.

Recommended.

#Seahawks At this point, it seems that Trey Lance should be a cheap option as a backup QB. I would like to see the Seahawks sign him to compete with Howell. The Hawks should ensure they have the best option available that can grow behind Geno.

Recent Reads:

Blood and Thunder: An Epic of the American West by Hampton Sides. A history of the American SW. I learned about aspects of the Mexican War and Civil War I didn't know. The history moved along quickly, but with human interest to make it interesting even for a fiction reader.

My recent reads:
The Final Solution by Michael Chabon - Under 200 pages -Book club choice. I found it a bit hard to follow and not a rewarding read.

Spotted Horses by William Faulkner - I've heard of the author, so I tried a short book by him. It was interesting, but not very fun.

#NFL #Seahawks If you could guarantee that by trading your first round pick, your team would have a good enough record to get into the playoffs that year, would you make the trade? If the answer is no, at what round should you take the trade?

#Seahawks #NFL Can the Steelers have provided a model for getting compensatory picks by signing QBs to one-year contracts as a backup? The team would have to do it in a year they don't expect to earn compensatory picks. Then not go heavy in FA the next year to keep the picks.

Yep. I bet you need to click on it to see it in full, but it's a good Non Sequitur for this year.
