I returned after a very brief trip. The wasps are very placid, and don't seem too bothered by people. Their polydomous nests are very large, and sometimes they cover entire trees in town. I now need to focus on my literature review, and sort through the data. There were also lots of crabs!

I am finally on Christmas Island to do research on the native paper wasp species, Polistes balder.

Banded sugar ants (Camponotus consobrinus) are about to have their nuptial flight. I've found they usually wait until the week between Christmas and New Year's, but it's been hot and wet enough for them to start early this year.
