Today is my sweet Freckles 6th birthday! So she got a little doggie cake to celebrate.

Yes, the costume choice reflects their personalities. Waiting for trick-r-treators, after the first one or two, the costumes come off.
One basset hound is dressed like an angel with wings and a halo. The other, with her tail a blur of motion is dressed like a devil with red wings and horns.

Work was whackadoodle today, so I'm late walking the goofballs (aka the dogs). Bella was clean, then she found a pile of leaves to roll in & has turned dingy gray. It's days like these, I wish I had a tub. Also, she's just low riding goofball.

After 5 days of dog sitting, these 2 knuckleheads are no longer separated by dog gates in their separate territories & have decided to taunt each other all evening. They don't understand it's mid-week & my work day starts too early for their cat nonsense.

This is why I live in Colorado. Took a drive up to Estes Park, just because I could.
Estes Park lake peaking between the trees, mountains covered in evergreen trees in the distance with grasses and wild flowers in the front. Trees around the lake are a mix of evergreen and deciduous turning gold. The sky is bright clear blue with the sun shining down. Rocky Mountain National Park is in the distance. High mountain peaks with clouds rolling over & blocking the peaks. In the foreground rolling fills covered in evergreens, with pockets of gold aspens.

Signs I'm a pack rat, emptying a box of cds & cassettes I found TWO unopened blank cassette tapes. Not only are these probably 20+ yrs old, depending on when & where I bought them, they've been moved at least 5 times, if not across states. Do I keep these relics or learn to let go?

Someone is pretending to be innocent, not like she dropped a baby bunny at Nana's feet. All baby bunnies have been returned to their nest. I constructed a fortress of planters around the nest & Bella has been pouting ever since.

Took advantage of the heat to bathe these knuckeheads in a wading pool. Note: they hate baths, but love rolling in stinky stuff.

Trying to patch a summer dress, so it lasts on more summer (my own fault for buying cheap), but little miss here keeps trying to eat the thread.

BBC commentator mark savage says about Armenia's act "It's not clear what he's running from - but he tells us he's 'a survivor' and he'll ,'stay alive-r', presumably not because of his grasp of English grammar."

Walked the Furry Scurry, raised a little money for Humane Colorado, where we rescued our cats. The ladies started strong & then faded. But perked up for PawBenders at the end.

If ever there was a time for comfort food, it's now, so I made Ina Garten's mac & cheese recipe (minus the tomatoes because they don't reheat well).
A casserole dish filled with macaroni and cheese, covered in bread crumbs), gold and white (because the primary cheese is gruyere vs cheddar with food coloring to make it orange.)

Went to a town hall by my representative Brittany Pettersen. The line wrapped around the baseball field & they ended up opening both sides of the gym. She brought Perlmutter, AG Weiser, mayor Strom, state rep Stewart & a rep from CDLE to advise federal employees who had been fired.
Town hall in Colorado gymnasium. In the chairs a representative from Colorado Dept of Labor & Employment, Lakewood mayor Wendy Strom, Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen, former Congressman Ed Perlmutter, Attorney General Phil Weiser & Colorado legislative representative Rebekah Stewart. Line of people stretching from the high school parking lot to the front door along a baseball field. Line of people from high school to the baseball field and around the field. Apparently up to 1500 people RSVPed that they would attend. As Representative Pettersen spoke they filled the other side of the gymnasium with overflow crowd.

Time-line cleanse, so last yr I only read 23 books the whole yr (because it was sh*t show), but this yr I've already surpassed that by discovering @julieannelong.bsky.social blacklist. The Pennyroyal Green series got me through February w/o losing my mind.

Since my goal for 2025 is more reading & less doomscrolling (because 2025 is leaning hard into the doom), hit the bookstore & picked up double @lindaholmes.bsky.social (read Evie Drake Starts Over, loved it, but just got behind in my reading, so went for both books today).
Paperback copy of Flying Solo and hardback copy of Back After This by author Linda Holmes (host of NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour).
