It might have been tongue in cheek. 🤷‍♂️ He was also objecting to someone who’d compared Distortion to Lush. Quote stuck in the memory, nonetheless.

Also didn’t make the piece, and it isn’t relevant here, but I told Lee Buford from The Body that I’d learnt how to make my own pizza dough over lockdown and then I asked Lee Buford from The Body “Are you proud of me?” 🍕 😬 (Politely, he was.)

Bit of an overstatement, isn’t it. Might have been tongue in cheek. 🤷‍♂️ Stuck in the memory, though.

Don’t think it made the piece but I put Merritt’s quote to Lee Buford when I interviewed him about The Body’s own distortion-mad record I've Seen All I Need To See in 2021. He was like, “That figures.”

They don’t all do that. The other ones frown with their arms folded. Well now, he looks the kind of guy who’ll put the world to rights!/preach to the converted.

My younger brother was lucky enough to have a Thomas duvet set. The pillowcase featured James on one side and Percy on the other. He would only sleep with the pillow facing Percy-side-up because James was the naughty engine who was always getting into trouble. FACT. 😴 🚂

I understand my digressions might be annoying to some and the style not for everyone but yeah. It isn’t that other thing and nor was it meant to be. 🤷‍♂️

My book’s more about how Paul’s reputation changes in the 90s, not just on account of what he does himself but also what is occurring in the broader culture. One reader described it as “a series of vignettes”. 👍

Cool - thanks! Just waiting for some more to arrive. I’ll DM when they’re here.

There are plenty of digressions if you’re not that into Paul. It’s about the 90s as well!
