I figured this out the first time I went through airport security after 9/11. DHS is where they started stashing the fascists for when they'd need them.
it's wild that DHS will have survived two presidential transitions to a Trump administration. It's a Chekov's gun of reactionary tools, and rather than dismantle the org, both Obama and Biden treated it like as dull and normal a part of day-to-day governance as NOAA. newrepublic.com/article/1470...

i stopped criticizing art so much (unless it’s genuinely dumb/low effort) bc it takes a lot of courage to stand on a creative idea enough to share with other people and i think ppl overlook that in a consumer heavy society
