My favorite thing about teaching younger students is that the weird kids are weird in the exact same way when I was one. In 40 years there will still be kids with big headphones and wolf shirts drawing comics in the back of class.

One of the many things that frustrates me about this is all the people saying they voted for Trump because of the economy. What about a serial grifter who bankrupts himself every Tuesday to avoid paying his tab makes you think he can run an economy?

Writing is weird. I wrote a story about my grandmother. It was the first time I really confronted her passing. I never felt the closeness to her memory so many other, doubtless better, writers speak of. What I did feel was my own sense of her taking shape. I don’t know her better. Just how I did.
