I use pellets that are normally used in pellet stoves. It’s about $4-5 for a 40lb bag. Tractor supply also sells pellets as horse bedding for about $6 a bag. As long as they’re kiln dried they’re good!

My student @spasqualetti.bsky.social gave an excellent talk (I'm a little biased) about identifying microbes from stickleback that are able to degrade plastics. She also found that microbes in community have enhanced ability to break down plastics. Proud PI status
