the earliest i can remember would have been the 1984-ish huge ass laptop with unlit LCD screen my dad brought home from work, probably not the kind of LCD you're referring to. Beyond that it would have been something tiger electronics-ish.

the Bills fans/table thing being the same sort of thing. you must devote the health of your body to the team in a sanctified ritual, in a parking lot with a folding table. Every sport has some form of this, but none so pronounced as american football.
