Freshly panfried gyoza topped with with ume (sour plum) and shiso (perilla leaf) from Pariking in Kanazawa. This was filled with the usual pork, but they had vegetarian and vegan options Kushikatsu (lightly breaded meats and vegetables deep-fried on skewers). At Arata Kushikatsu in Tokyo Slices of raw tuna at Musashi, an izakaya in Kanazawa Black ramen at Ramen Jigen in Takaoka, a regional type of ramen. Dark soy sauce is used for the broth, giving it its distinctive black appearance

I love CoCo Ichibanya so much that I captured their mascot to take home with me
Necoichi, the mascot of the Japanese curry chain CoCo Ichibanya. It's a cat that's half white, half brown, like a plate of curry rice. There's a deep fried breaded pork cutlet on its head. A mini plush of Necoichi that I put in a clear vinyl pouch

chill afternoon in Shimo-Kitazawa, one of my fav neighbourhoods
A large wall in a quiet side path in Shimo-Kitazawa has a painting of the three main girls from K-Pop Demon Hunters wearing the traditional Korean garb normally worn by the demons, depicted in broad brushstrokes. This is the first and only KDH representation we've seen in Japan so far on this trip. Colourful children's art mural on a wedge building Soup curry from Rojiura Samurai Curry, one of my fav places to eat in Tokyo. They specialize in soup curry, which comes from Hokkaido, and are known for piling on tons of beautiful vegetables. Crispy chicken thigh with 12 kinds of vegetables. There's a small bowl of rice off-camera Bob going up a covered outdoor escalator with people depicted on the windows. He's framed perfectly to blend in with the artwork

"Friend Like Me" was an incredible spectacle that kept going on much longer than the film version, getting increasingly more extravagant. It reminded me of the Gabbo show

the Aladdin musical was so good! The Arabian folk setting, American jazz music & dance style, and Japanese humour and mannerisms made for an interesting mash of cultures. All the magic effects kept making me wonder "how did they do that??"
