Excited about heat and building decarbonisation, working @regassistproj - heating & cooling / industrial electrification / district heating / heat planning
Hi Dave, this analysis is looking at industrial users! Tax share for households will be even higher as they also pay VAT. For households please check this paper: www.raponline.org/knowledge-ce...
Making electricity cheaper: Redistributing policy costs for affordable household heat electrification
Affordable electrification relies on affordable electricity. Nuanced price reform will best equip decision-makers for success.

This is part 3 of our series 'Make electricity cheaper'. Reforming taxes and levies is 1 out of 8 priority actions we should take.

We recommend governments to:
1) Quickly implement a targeted tax and levy exemption for efficient and flexible heat generation.

2) Extend this with reform for all industrial end-users, don't put new policy costs on electricity and start a gradual tax shift from electricity to gas.

Taking a closer look at investments in industrial heat pumps, we find that taxes and levy reduction together with carbon pricing can significantly reduce payback periods, especially for very efficient heat pumps. Yet, structural reforms are needed to further reduce electricity prices.

Our analysis focusses on industrial electricity and #gas prices, aiming to reduce payback periods for investment in electrified process heat. We identify countries (EU and UK) with high potential and need for pricing reform.

Agree missed opportunity, they should have gone for 'Reinpumpe 2' ;)

Jaap 'flat protein disc' could be a solid option :)

Do you think this could work in other countries? Find this hard to imagine in e.g. NL or BE. Esp. as tile sidewalks are the norm.

Interesting! How does this work with permissions, does the municipality give you a permit to install the ducting?

The whole German part of the grid had been offered to the German state but they declined. Likely because of their borrowing restrictions? #Schwarzenul

Congrats! Optimistic timeline ;) an episode on plug-in solar could be useful for all those people without opportunity to do rooftop solar?
