You can't go through a process of enculturation if you aren't willing to fully engage in what you are doing (and she admitted she wasn't). The other problem though is that she did get access to confidential material which she shared with people that weren't part of the community, without permission from that community. The sources I've referred to in my article cover the issue of Luhrmann's work in much more depth. I do find it inherently deceitful for the researcher not to remind the community, precisely because they may provide that person access to things they wouldn't otherwise do because they know s/he is a researcher. It creates an additional challenge for the academic, because s/he must be accountable to the community about how s/he will use the material and observations, but I think that transparency would make the work more legitimate.

The history of the witch hunts also offers a caution against reflexively glorifying the “community” offered by small towns and villages when the bonds of such communities are too often cemented by tormenting their marginal members. This perhaps is the most chilling thing about the stories Roper has gleaned from the antique documents she has unearthed in so many small German towns: their ordinariness. However grotesque the tortures and executions to which the victims were subjected, however bizarre their coached confessions of flying on the backs of goats to witches’ Sabbaths to eat roasted babies on silver platters, the origins of most of the accusations are pretty mundane.

I can't answer about Ursula's stuff, because I really don't understand it. Her whole body of writing seems to me like a kind of political sermonette all gussied up with literary style. Logan as the head of two of his own film studios as well as director for music videos for Sony, fight choreographer for network TV & indie film, and producer for joint ventures.
