The chapter on reproduction, maternity and surrogacy, you would expect, would have little about trans women, given these subjects are generally not a trans thing. But even here she drags in the issue, implicating the use of “inclusive” language as a way of separating women from the experience of bearing children. She says the analysis of the relationship between pregnancy and women’s oppression founders because: “We rarely get beyond ‘right-wing men don’t want pregnant people to have abortion care because they want to punish assigned-female-at-birth sex-havers for having sex’.” Whatever that means. On surrogacy, she talks about feminist warnings of “the toxic combination of ‘progressive’ sex denialism and commercial surrogacy”. So there you have it – the transgenders are responsible for exploitation in surrogacy, because of words.
