I'm still going to get it and have a great time playing the nun with the mace and the cowabunga attack, but I was hoping it would come with a little more...stuff. It would be nice if it added some variety to the base map somehow or gave me more things to buy

I see the website touts "two Nightfarers, two Nightlords, and a new shifting earth" as the main selling points, which is...honestly, maybe a little thin? My money would have been on two Nightfarers, three Nightlords and a new map with associated accoutrements

I like the idea of it, but in practice I think it diminishes both the tracks its remixing, they feel kinda muted and simplified and boxed in by the structure

it's the opposite to the sense of release and expansion you'd want from an ultimate final phase IMO

And I dunno, I just don't think a 30th anniversary project from a 2D action game developer should have levels that feel this awkward to move around

The boss fights are solid though, definitely the most polished part. On 挑戦 difficulty the Chapter 1 boss kinda put me through my paces, in a good way

Enemy attacks easily get lost in the visual noise, and I'm never quite sure how I'm meant to deal with them. My block is weak and feels like a last resort, but dodging is also oddly hard for such a high-mobility game because my big movement tool yeets me at the enemy with unpredictable results

It's not really clear from a static screenshot but both the shopkeeper and the reflection of the protagonist in the mirror have little animations

The vibe is fully "I followed this weatherbeaten sign to a run-down storefront where a surly guy has been serving local workers the same pork katsu since the 90s. It wasn't michelin-star quality, but it was something new and tasty, and if you look around your local area you can find the same thing"

Iirc the base game was released last year and a full version with VA and multilingual support came out a couple months ago (it's on Steam! you can get it!), but I've been holding out a little for the console physical and I'm glad I did, it's a really pretty box

Oh, this game! I actually bumped into the remake because Umihara Nozomu mentioned working on it (it was apparently one of the games that helped her transition into scenario writing)
