TLDR for those paywalled:

Bag fees reduce the number of bags used by about 50%, but this is not enough to offset the higher plastic content in the thicker, sturdier bags currently offered in stores.

There was also concern that fees impact affordability.

Here's SPU talking about the same problem.

I try to listen to them every day while I am working! They also have transcripts for those who prefer to read. This one isn't really about Zohran, but rather discusses colonial influence and the interconnectedness of liberation movements.

Rightfully, the cuts to Medicaid (over 10M people will lose their health care) and the tax cuts for the rich have been the story of the disastrous Republican budget bill.

But I read the whole thing. And there are some hidden rats in there you need to know about.

Bone chilling.

A court ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to stay in the United States.

The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he was illegally removed. Trump is pretending he won the ruling 9-0.

In defiance of the Supreme Court & without any evidence, the White House claims that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a “terrorist,” who was “sent to the right place.”

This is a blatant LIE. He is innocent.

He cannot be allowed to rot in an El Salvadorian jail. He must be brought home.
April 14, 2025 at 10:46 PM
"Without due process" means "anyone he wants." And if the courts can't enforce the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, it means that as long as Trump can get the plane off the ground before anyone intervenes, he can do it without consequence.
AOC: It’s bone-chilling. Every day, there’s something new. And today, we saw Trump express openness to sending U.S. citizens to foreign prisons without due process. It’s anti-American.

Undocumented immigrants who've been paying taxes in the US are facing an unsettling possibility: This year, that may be used against them.

Here's a look at what's happening and why it matters. cnn.it/42cAY7e

Btw, undocumented immigrants paid nearly $90B in local, state, and federal taxes in 2023! Immigrants contribute more to our economy than any billionaire ever will.
If you paid $1 In federal income taxes, you paid more than:

Tesla in 2024 & 2022
AT&T in 2021
Nike in 2020
FedEx in 2020
Dish Network in 2020
Amazon in 2017-2018
Elon Musk in 2018
Jeff Bezos in 2007 & 2011
Carl Icahn in 2016-2017

Yes. It’s time to tax the rich.

Don't forget that 90% of those illegally deported to El Salvador have NO criminal record. Their "mistake" with Kilmar Abrego Garcia wasn't deporting an innocent man, it was deporting an innocent man with court protections. Deporting innocent people is the goal.

More than 50,000 people in Gaza are dead. 114,000 have been wounded — two-thirds of whom are women & children. The entire infrastructure has been destroyed.

Much of that devastation has been done with bombs that the U.S. supplied to the Netanyahu war machine. We are complicit.
