"Good news! I have created the camera that films dreams from the classic sci fi story 'Don't Create the Camera That Films Dreams'"!

Anyway it's got Sam Neil and William Hurt and Solveig Dommartin and Max Von Sydow and the soundtrack slaps, and you should get your hands on one of the many different versions – they're all good.

I've been thinking about this film a lot as we witness with genAI how many people are ready to fall directly into the pool of Narcissus, and how inevitably destructive to human brains this technology is. It's dangerous in about a hundred different ways but I think Wenders called it on this aspect.

It turns into a technology of solipsism. Creating bespoke images and movies that mean nothing to anyone except the dreamer. It's addictive, a drug of one's own making, and an object of narcissistic obsession.

However, this camera not only records video of the physical world for the blind, it can also record one's dreams if you sleep while wearing it. It records the brain waves associated with seeing, so makes sense, right? Characters begin to obsessively record and rewatch their dreams.

The technology in question is a video camera that can record images that blind people can see. The inventor has created it for his wife, who is blind. She is a bit more apprehensive, as she's had a long and fulfilling life and lives in a close knit community. Husband is a bit of a mad scientist type

Until the End of the World is kinda three movies bolted together (and I mean that in the best possible way). One of them is a Sci Fi story of the unintended consequences of a new, seemingly miraculous technology. I'm not going to spoil how it ends here but I am gonna talk about the plot, be warned.

When you're too terrifyingly right wing for Dreher and Beck, boy howdy I certainly hope this fellow has feds all up in his business before he actually does a coup

I don't understand how people don't understand that something not being real means it is instantly no longer compelling or interesting. I too can make up stories about how I want the world to be! Nobody else cares!

Good. It's about time someone in authority took this seriously.

Oh yeah my husband and I call that the weekly vomit (weekly because we don't want that much TV). As in. "Oh, yep, there we go. There's the weekly vomit."

If it's good for PTSD, these bros PTSD is entirely self-inflicted. Turning yourself in a ghoulish fascist in order to hoard more wealth than you could ever possibly need has got to be pretty damaging to one's psyche.

It's how they're able to live with themselves

This behavior isn't ketamine but a) yes, they are all casual ketamine users, it's totally normalized in SV and b) also they all take a lot of other drugs too (this looks like garden variety Colombian marching powder to me)

I think it's time for the rest of the world to impose sanctions, but we're too powerful for that still (despite how hard they're trying).

Truly, legitimately, I didn't know what to do at this point. They've proven a zillion times over that not only do they not care about the protestations of the likes of me but that they have no shame whatsoever. I'm not sure what opposition is possible to a regime that actively seeks "liberal tears"

Man, that's distressing to hear. I work at another teaching center at an R1 and we are bailing as fast as we can against the CIO who keeps turning the AI hose on. No one asked us, the experts, probably because they know we would have told them to eff off with their plagiarism machines.
