Rose Girone, who was believed to be the oldest survivor of the Holocaust, died this week at 113.
She fled Nazi Germany in 1939 with her husband and baby only to be forced into a Jewish ghetto in Shanghai. Still, she would often say, "Aren’t we lucky?"

I hesitated to post this drawing because the subject matter is so common, dried grass. Then I decided that I like the simplicity and way that the seed heads curl in opposite directions.

I'd forgotten the disconnect. The odd mental juggling act where you are at once witnessing the behaviours of the most inane, childish collection of adults on the planet, while also having to remember how incredibly dangerous it all is.
