Ch. 4 Married life: Aww yeah baby Elephants are in play now. We've been introduced to calves Samson and Fatuma. The 'love story' element with David is teed up in an engaging way. There's some early Tsavo Park history too, that's neat.
(2/2) and sleeping with nothing but planks of wood that smell like meat between Daphne, her sister, and curious lions. My heart goes out to all the loss of loved ones in any chapter, this one was conveyed very clearly.
Ch.3 Growing Up:
This was a hard chapter to read sometimes personally, it's mentioned fairly shortly but TW in this one for child abuse from a teacher and implied grooming of a young teen. Cool parts included WW2 History, a c-section zebra orphan, (1/2)

Yeah that's come back by Chapter 3 & 4, the real threat of the Mau Mau at the time described is terrific and I'm glad we have her point of view, but bias about the anti-colonist rebellion is expected and present. This seems more like a jumping off point for looking into that history then a full pic
Chapter 1- Settlers:
The story of the Aggett clan’s Oregon Trail-esque from Scotland to Kenya was engagingly told, though between this and Elephant Whisper it does leave me wanting for more Native/Indigenous African (is that the right term?) perspectives. I’ll hunt later, feel free to shoot recs
Prologue: It is suuuuper impressive this woman is alive lol. Good at setting the stage for tone/vibe

Chapter 2- Childhood:
The Childhood Memories were sweet and felt Special, and I liked the snapshot of living in Kenya at that time. The connection in her childhood wonder and her mother's ecological wisdom that no doubt shaped her was beautiful, and the antidote about her experience with the (1/2)
