People have forgotten the nightmare of assigned risk pools, and how any pre-existing condition meant you’d pay over a thousand per month for limited coverage. Nobody should ever be forced into risk pools again. Single-payer should have been instituted decades ago.

Previous health problems could include: teenage acne, or an ex-husband who broke your jaw...

But it wasn't just that they could deny you the care. They could take your premiums for decades, and then when you needed treatment deny you the care.

My sister's COBRA was expiring. She was pregnant, and no company would sell her health insurance. It was a nightmare.

The ACA abolishing the ability to refuse to cover people is HUGE.

It may be a sign that I'm getting old but it seems incredible to me how fast people forgot about (or never learned about) the whole "pre-existing conditions" thing.

If you lost a job the only way to ensure you didn't lose coverage entirely was a expensive program named after a deadly snake (COBRA).
